Description:
Your clients are bombarded with dreams and schemes designed to reduce the taxes on their retirement plans. Which of these works and which do not? Advisors need a systematic approach to make sure they give the best advice to their clients who own IRAs, 401(k)s and other retirement plans. In this two-hour program, learn how to evaluate the latest ideas (and separate the fool-proof from the foolhardy), plus discover dozens of tried-and-true planning techniques you can use right away in your practice.
Attendees receive a 100-page+ handout with more than 200 planning ideas summarized and evaluated, to be used as a planning checklist for later client work, from “when, whether and how to take distributions” and “when, where and how to roll over benefits,” to Roth IRA conversions, charitable gifts, buying life insurance in the plan, and how to fit benefits into the estate plan. The handout also lists where to find out more to implement each idea and includes “client profiles” that suggest the best planning ideas for each type of client, as well as forms illustrating some of the recommended drafting ideas.

Learning Objectives:
• Learn how the over-72 client can or should avoid, reduce, or take RMDs
• Understand novel investments for IRAs: should a client’s IRA buy a business or real estate?
• Understand the opportunities in tax-free Roth conversions
• Learn charitable planning ideas for the wealthy and not-so-wealthy
• Understand if you can “beat” SECURE -- which ideas work and which don’t
• Learn new ways to fix IRA mistakes
