SOUTH REGION: North Texas Local Group will host a two hour CE program on Thursday, April 16, 2026. Please visit the North Texas Local Group community page for location information and to RSVP.
First Presentation:
Introduction to Special Needs Planning
Advisors who recognize the prevalence of disabilities in society will understand that this is a topic that touches a significant segment of their clientele. As a consequence, they will want to develop a basic understanding of public benefits programs and the principles of special needs planning so that they can help affected clients deal with the complex, high-stakes issues they face when caring for a child or other relative with disabilities. Public benefits are both essential for most people with disabilities, but inadequate to provide the sort of life most planning clients would want for their loved ones. Every advisor should learn the key strategies for maintaining access to public benefits and how to modify typical planning strategies to meet the unique challenges added by disabilities.
Presenter:
Christopher Currin, CFP, ChSNC of Special Needs Wisdom, LLC
Christopher Currin holds both the CFP and ChSNC designations. He founded Pegasus Advisors, a fee-only tax and financial planning firm, in 2000. That firm was acquired by Mercer Global Advisors in 2016, where he served as Senior Wealth Advisor and Senior Wealth Strategist, leading a team working to enhance the company’s service offering for families with disabilities. Since retiring in January 2026 he has been developing a new educational platform for families with special needs and the professionals they employ.
Second Presentation:
Practice Management Roundtable
Jean Keener will facilitate a roundtable discussion with NAPFA members about practice management. Members will each share a current practice management opportunity and receive feedback from their peers on solutions and best practices. Topics requested are on the financial planning process, onboarding new clients, and selecting new technology, particularly for AI tools. It's important for NAPFA firms to stay up to date on issues and best practices experienced by other firms so that we can build sustainable, profitable enterprises and provide the best financial planning advice for clients.
Keener has been principal of her firm since 2008. She holds the CFP and CRPC.
